Vampires, Werewolves and a Gaggle of Girls

I am back in Gordes, France this evening, a special part of the Luberon.  I would have thought a strong mistral was blowing air into the old fireplace and breathing life into my home.  But it is summer, and the mistrals rarely come this time of year.

I wandered to Aix en Provence.  A gaggle of girls stepped into a movie house.  They were screaming with delight.  I didn’t understand.  The lights went out.  The theater filled with teenagers and the screen flickered to life on this strange night.  They watched a story of forbidden love–a girl named Bella caught between Edward the Vampire and Jacob the Werewolf.

Times have changed.

They weren’t scared these girls.  It had nothing to do with horror, only unrequited love.  I thought mischievously to myself that they knew so little.  Outside I heard the wind hollowing again, but I knew better.  It was not the wind.

If you can fall in love with a Vampire or a Werewolf, can you fall in love with a dead man?

As I paced the halls back at my home in Gordes, I wondered why I had never made a film about Vampires or Werewolves.  It was then I decided that it was not too late.

Then I thought about the girls.  I hoped they got home safely.

  1. Ah, those dead can be loved, and the dead, in turn can love. May I recommend a film called Zombie Honeymoon? Goofy title, and a very low budget film, but it has SOMETHING that sets it apart.

I will see if I can find someone to watch it with.
