Monster Kids and Horror Fans!!!

Monster Kids and Horror Fans!!!

I must say I love horror fans.  They rock, as my new friend Drew Tinnin would say!  And, Drew, I must say you rock!

From Monster kids from long ago to the horror fans of today, a few things have stayed constant, your loyalty, your compassion and your freaky obsession with things that go bump in the night.

I always heard you, was one of you, but now I want to reach out to you again.  And it’s so much more difficult now.

I hope my voice still resinates with you because I am forever yours.  I owe you a million thank yous.  You made my life rich and gave me a guiding light.

That light still shines from where I stand, behind the veil, hoping to connect  to each one of you again.

Thanks for suspending your disbelief, thanks for screaming in all the right places and laughing, too.  Thanks for going along with this lonely, misunderstood kid who grew up only wanting one thing…to scare the pants off of you.

On this first day of March, this dead Castle holds up a glass of red wine, and with a song in his heart toasts you.

The horror fan, the monster kids–I couldn’t have done it without you.

If you have a moment could you just send me one adjective that describes you–the horror fan.

The word that describes me is afraid. How about you?

Also, for writer extraordinaire, Dan Dillard, who else wants to have another go at a brand new Scare It Forward?

I also have to use the word passionate to describe myself. I was such a fan of horror movies that once wrapped myself in bandages, put on a hat, overcoat, and sunglasses to be the Invisible Man. This would not be so odd if it was Halloween, but this was a bright summer’s day when I was 14. Like you, Mr. Castle, I wanted to scare the pants off someone. And I did. One of the children in my neighborhood went home to their parents, who quickly called the police. So, of course, my scare boomeranged back to me when the police car pulled up to me. That scared the bejeesus out of me. LOL but, it also gave me my first true taste, albeit a small one, of what kind of thrill it must have given you to see people terrified of your movies.

The past year that we have you back in our lives has been so much fun. You have inspired me, encouraged me, and made me feel I have a true friend for eternity in you. When you asked me to be involved in Scare It Forward, it was one of the biggest thrills of my life. I hope I lived up to your expectations of me, and also hope I can be part of any other project you would desire me to be involved in. You’ve become like a beloved uncle to me. Speaking of beloved family members, my father is on the other side of the veil since 2003. If you ever run into a Michael J. Power there, tell him I loved him very much. 🙂

You were the first to find me back “From the Grave!” You are forever part of me now.

Your invite to do the first Scare It Forward was a moment I shall never forget….you brought out a writer that was trapped inside….anytime you would honor me with that chance again, I will be right there with Pen in hand..or keyboard at fingertips! Rich

    Wonder.

For me, all imaginative fiction is about what is behind that door, what is over that hill, what is around that corner, what is the face behind the mask–what is that new thing I can know? Horror fiction is the dark side of this idea, but there is wonder to be had even here.

Will I be afraid? Perhaps. But I want to experience that, however dangerous that might be; and having known that danger, be better able to deal with it.

And that exploration of these dark spaces is so much easier when the practitioner of dark fiction is able to work with a wink and a smile.

Bring it on, Mr. Castle! And thank you.

    • William Castle says:

I love this response!!! Wonder. I hadn’t really thought about it but it is right on. And I’m glad that a little wink and smile helps explore the dark spaces with a little more ease.

    Passionate.

And on this first day of March, while you toasted us with your glass of red wine, a new generation of kids enjoyed a colorful presentation of your numerous film trailers.

    • William Castle says:

And that is amazing to be. Beyond belief and thanks to people like you!!!

  5. Lights up a Don Diego #5 in your honor. I am still able to hold a smile that would make Sardonicus blush when I think back to that joy I felt last September.

    • William Castle says:

      You make me smile.

  6. Enthusiastic!

    And yes.

    • William Castle says:

Yes, enthusiastic! I love horror fans enthusiasm. Nothing better.
